Future iPhone vs HTC Evo 4G: The Tech Battle of the Summer

Recently at CTIA 2010, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse introduced the long awaited HTC superphone for Sprint. The HTC Evo 4G. The Evo features an 8 Megapixel camera on the back, a 1.3 Megapixel camera on the front of the phone, a 4.3 inch multitouch display, HDMI output, kickstand, 1 ghz Snapdragon processor, and the ability to run on Sprint's growing 4G network. In a world dominated by the continuing battle of AT&T and Verizon, this is a big win for Sprint. For Sprint to announce the most full featured phone on the market and the arrival of the Google Nexus One is a move that could move Sprint back into the mix to be the best wireless provider in the United States. But some say "Not so Fast", especially the folks at Apple, AT&T and Verizon. Recently the Wall Street Journal and Daring Fireball's Jon Gruber reported that the "iPhone HD" could feature a 940 x 640 double resolution display, a front facing camera, A4 processor, multitasking support, and be featured on AT&T and Verizon. Let the Battle Begin.

It is no secret that Apple and Google aren't the best of friends anymore. Android has cut into the iPhone market and Apple is suing HTC for "stealing" certain patents that Apple initially developed. Apple and Google are apparently trying to rekindle their relationship. Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Google CEO Eric Schmidt were spotted at a Palo Alto, CA coffee shop discussing matters that affected the two technology superpowers. Although the two CEO's decided to later discuss the matter in private, it can be assumed that the two companies are not at war, as many technology pundits assume. Steve Jobs values Google as a partner but I believe that Apple is in the drivers seat. Apple has seen what different Android devices have to offer and Steve Jobs knows that he needs to deliver a big upgrade to the iPhone. As of right now it appears that the iPhone will be inferior to the HTC Evo 4G Hardware wise but when one talks about the iPhone its what appears on the screen that makes the iPhone great.

I think that Apple will implement some sort of Expose multitasking feature, a front facing camera, a hardware redesign, a better resolution display, and an A4 processor. That right there is enough to compete with the Evo if both phones ran on Android. But that's not the case, now is it?? Apple has apps and tons of them. Apple controls the Application developers. Apple knows it and the developers know it. With the new features inside the rumors iPhone OS 4.0, which have been reported for months now, Apple will sell millions of iPhones, not because the iPhone is the better phone hardware wise but because it will probably be on a better network(Verizon) and because the 2010 consumer wants apps and the iPhone is the best phone for apps. Don't get me wrong, the HTC Evo will be a great device but come WWDC time in June, Steve Jobs and iPhone will deliver a huge blow to the Android Market.

The iPad is all about Software and Applications

WHERE IS THE CAMERA?! On the Afternoon of January 27,2010 that was the phrase heard around the technology world. Now, two days away from the iPad launch the question heard around the technology world is.... WHERE IS MY CREDIT CARD?! For some reason the mood of the iPad has gone from disappointment, because of lack of Adobe Flash and a Camera, to excitement because of the great User Interface, Speedy 1GhZ A4 Processor and most of all the over 1,000 iPad specific applications that will hit the App Store on the same day that the iPad is launched.

If you really think about it, the iPad has a lot more pros than it does cons... Let me Explain. Some reasons that people and pundits state that the iPad is an underachieving device is because it lacks Adobe Flash support, lacks a camera, and lacks multitasking. First of all, if you ask Apple or you ask Steve Jobs why Flash support is not supported in the iPad he will respond by giving you three adjectives. He will say Flash is buggy, clunky, and outdated. If you take a look at the times when your Mac crashes or is slowing down it is mainly caused by Flash. Flash takes up a lot of bandwidth from your internet connection and causes it to slow down. It is clunky because it takes up room in your browser and your hard drive. It is outdated because the new standard is HTML5. A built in multimedia viewer into your internet browser. The lack of Flash has quickly diminished as a bad feature because companies and websites are developing apps for their site to go onto the iPad and sites like CNN, Sports Illustrated, Reuters, The White House, The New York Times, Time Magazine and others have developed sites that do away with Flash and embrace HTML5 as their main source for multimedia on their website. In my opinion Apple is using this first generation iPad as a test of some sorts. Apple didn't want to blow everybody away with their first generation iPad just to be able to not have sufficient upgrades in future keynotes. Apple is seeing which kind of people buy this device and what they use it for.

Although people complain about the hardware of the device, it is the software that will make the iPad's engine purr. The iPad can already run the more than 150,000 apps that were in the App Store prior to today. Now that developers have been working from months on iPad specific applications, the iPad will be all about the content that is put onto this device by the user. The iPad will be the most popular mobile game platform because game developers now have more freedom because the iPad features a larger screen and a fast processor. By the time the calender strikes 2011, the iPad will be the best portable gaming platform on the market by miles and miles. There are two other pieces of software that will make this thing awesome: the iBookstore and the iWork applications. This is already the best E-Reader and most publishing companies are coming on board with the iPad to display their e-Books. Whether it be the great touch color display or the ability to turn the page with your finger, look up words in the text via the built in dictionary, the iBooks app on the iPad will be the best of its kind. The iWork suite makes this machine a computer. For Apple to put in productivity applications on the iPad using a touch interface is genius by the folks in Cupertino. Now, with the ability to work on word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations on a mobile device like the iPad is a huge plus because it markets the device to businessmen and businesses alike. iWork will also be a plus to students who have to type papers or give presentations in front of the class. The iPad could be all a college student needs. The iPad could hold their textbooks via iBooks and they could type papers via Pages in the iWork suite.

As you can tell I am sold on the iPad and I will be getting one in a matter of weeks. This device will start a whole new revolution to the way mobile computing is operated. The iPad, like the iPhone, will set the bar high for other companies and Apple will have been the pioneers on the tablet computer evolution.

iPad will Launch April 3rd

Yes that's right. Apple has announced today that the iPad will be available on April 3rd in Apple Stores and preorders on the iPad will start on March 12th. Although the wait is a bit longer than the 60 day period that Steve Jobs proposed at the Apple Event back in January, April 3rd will still be a huge day for Apple and its consumers. Apple fans everywhere will flock to Apple Stores on April 3rd to get there piece of Apple history. Some fans might have to wait though.

It has been reported latley that supplies for the iPad have been a bit constrained, thus, resulting in the delay to April 3rd. I think that the iPad launch will be a lot like the iPhone launch. People will wait outside of Apple Stores the night before, ready to get their hands on Apple's latest piece of innovation. Considering the preorders for this thing go on sale on the 12th of March, the lines of people wanting to buy it the first day, and the constrained supplies, some people might not get their hands on it for a while.

I am planning on getting a Wi-Fi only iPad but not at the April 3rd launch. I will have updates on the latest iPad and Apple news and I will have an unboxing and review videos of the iPad on my YouTube channel. Have a great day.

What I Think will be in the New MacBook Pros

The MacBook Pro rumor mill has been heating up. Whether it was the Best Buy SKU's, the Geekbench of a Core i7 MacBook Pro, or the AppleInsider report of dual graphics, there have definitely been hints at an upcoming release of a new MacBook Pro. Many people have speculated what will be in the new MacBook Pros but realisticly they will have the following: Arrandale CPU's and NVidia Optimus GPU's. In my opinion, Apple will not use the Core i3 processors because they are too low end to fit into the "Pro" line. In terms of CPU's, I think it could go one of two ways. First, the 15" and 17" models could both have Arrandale Processors. The 15" would have a 2.4 ghz and a 2.53 ghz processor, while the high end 15 inch would have the 2.66 ghz i7 processor. The 17 inch model would have that same 2.66 ghz i7 processor. The second option would be that the two lower end 15"ers would have high end Core 2 Duos and the high end 15" inch MacBook Pro would have the 2.66 ghz i7 along with the 17".

In terms of GPU specs, are two schools of thought. First use the NVidia Optimus technology, or use an integrated Intel or NVidia card for standard tasks, like surfing the web or checking E-Mail, and for games or other graphically intensive applications, the MacBook Pro would use a card from the Nvidia 200m or 300m series. The 300m series is more likely. The second school of thought is to simply use the ATI Radeon 5000 series.

In my opinion I think we will see Core i5's on the lower end 15" MacBook Pros and the 2.66 ghz i7 processor will exist on the high end 15" model and the 17" model. On the graphics side of things I think that the 13" will have either the NVidia 9400m or one of the cards from the 200m series. The 15" and 17" models will have the integrated Intel graphics and the NVidia 330m for the dedicated graphics card.

As usual all we should see Hard Drive space increase and 4 GB RAM across the board. Also, there have been whisperings of USB 3.0 but I believe that is still a year away from coming to the Mac line of computers.

This is definitely a hot topic in the world of tech and I will keep you updated.

iPad will be great, just not right away

With the recent release of the iPad many people were initially dissapointed with the features that it actually produced. It didn't feature a camera, it had no flash, it didn't have an array of ports and it was just a big iPod Touch. Although I agree that the lack of a camera and lack of Adobe Flash are negatives, being a big iPod Touch and lack of ports aren't that big of a deal to me right now. Last time I checked the iPod Touch was the best selling and most popular MP3 player and expecting that Apple would've made this into a Mac more than a iPhone is silly because that is not what Apple does. The iPad is all about potential.

The iPad will come with 140,000 apps built in via the App Store via the iPod Touch/iPhone. There was also an SDK released for iPad specific applications on Wednesday. This is big because it can provide computer like applications for what was supposed to be a computer like device. People shouldn't be dissapointed with the iPad just because it has no camera and no flash. According to Steve Jobs, Flash is the main cause for problems that are encountered by users that experience crashes in Safari and other web browsers on a Mac. He also says that Adobe Flash is slowing fading away and the world is turning to HTML5. If you watched the keynote from Wednesday you noticed that the New York Times developed an app in 2 weeks specifically for the event and for the iPad. One can only imagine what app developers will be able to developed with 2 months before the iPad hits stores.

I think that Apple is really setting this device to take off in 2011. There should be a front facing camera in the next iPhone upgrade likely to happen in the summer at WWDC. This camera technology will eventually evolve onto the iPad in late 2010 or early 2011. This will open the door for better Video Conferencing and better camera technology in the future. Another feature that will help the iPad explode in 2011 is HTML5. By the time it should be close to taking over Flash and you will be able to view video content and other graphics like that inside the web browser.

All in all, the iPad is still going to be the best tablet computer in 2010 because, as Steve Jobs stated, 75 million people already know how to use it because of their past experiences with the iPod touch/iPhone. Also its Apple, who cant resist???

My Predictions for 2010 MacBook Pro Line

The last time the MacBook Pro was updated, Phil Schiller unvieled a new line of Macbook Pros that featured a unibody design and an improved battery. Although those features arent likey to change other internal parts of Apple's notebook's are likley to change. Intel is set to unveil its new mobile quad core processors. These i5 and i7 proccessors are likley to range between 2.4 and 2.66 ghz. It was rumored that Apple turned down these processors because Apple wanted to by pass Intel's integrated graphics for other GPU's, most likley the ATI Radeon cards that were introduced on the iMac's in October. As for my prediction on what these laptops will feature in terms of internal power, well first of all I expect a major internal upgrade and no increase in price, so without further ado lets get started with the 13 inch Macbook Pro.

The 13 inch Macbook Pro is considered Apple's most popular laptop but it wont get the most popular processor. I foresee the 13 inch MacBook Pro having two models. The first will have a 2.8 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with an ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card, 4 GB RAM and a 320 GB Hard Drive. The second 13 inch model will have a 3.06 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and feature the same other specs as the other 13 inch model. The Hard Drive will spin at 7200 rpm and feature an upgrade to a 500 GB Hard Drive on both models.

My favorite model is the 15 inch model because it combines the portabililty and power that are featured on the MacBook Pro line. I believe the MacBook Pro 15 inch will have the most diverse internal upgrades. The baseline will have a 3.06 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 4 GB RAM, 500 GB Hard Drive spinning at 7200 rpm and a ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card. The next 15 inch Macbook Pro will feature a 2.4 ghz Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive that can be upgraded to 1 TB and a ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card with an option to upgrade to a ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card. The high end 15 inch MacBook Pro will feature a 2.66 ghz Intel Core i7 processor, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB or 1TB Hard Drive and the same graphics options as the i5 15 inch MacBook Pro. There is also a possibility of a 1920x1080p display coming to the MacBook Pro but think they will stick with the 1440x900 display.

The latest and greatest MacBook Pro is the 17 inch model. I foresee only one 17 inch model which will consist of a 2.66 ghz Intel Core i7 processor, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB or 1 TB Hard Drive and an ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card.

I also forsee a couple changes to the ports on these MacBooks. I think the 17 inch model will add the SD Card Slot and keep the Expresscard/34 slot. On the 15 inch model a think that it would be smart to add an extra USB port, and I think Apple will do this. In terms of prices, I dont forsee any of these prices dropping, the prices will either stay the same or drop 100 or 200 dollars.

I think that Apple will upgrade the MacBook Pro's in a silent update and save the January 26th event for mobile things like the iPhone or the highly anticipated iSlate. I am highly anticipating these updates and I hope Apple takes my advice with these proposed updates because it would provide extra processing power and put the MacBook Pro's at the top of the processing power world in terms of Notebooks.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

It is Christmas Day, I hope all is going well with your family and I hope you are getting the gifts you wanted. But as we end 2009 and head into a brand new year and a brand new decade it is time to look back on what made Apple the company of the decade. Apple was put on the map when the iPod was released on October 23,2001. The product was phenomenally successful — over 100 million units were sold within six years. But Apple's sudden resurgence didn't stop there. Apple debuted the iTunes store on April 29,2003 and the largest music store was born. The service quickly became the market leader in online music services, with over 5 billion downloads by June 19, 2008. With those two products Apple all of a sudden took complete control of the music industry.

Apple started as a computer company in 1976 and in 2001 they focused back on the computer side of things. Apple spent years working on their new operating system and Mac OSX was finally released on March 24,2001. Mac OS X aimed to combine the stability, reliability and security of Unix with the ease of use afforded by an overhauled user interface. On May 19, 2001, Apple opened the first official Apple Retail Stores in Virginia and California. This was the first time a major electronics company opened their own retail stores. On June 6, 2005, Steve Jobs announced that Apple would begin producing Intel-based Mac computers in 2006. On January 10, 2006, the new Macbook Pro and iMac became the first Apple computers to use Intel's Core Duo CPU. By August 7, 2006 Apple had transitioned the entire Mac product line to Intel chips, over 1 year sooner than announced. Apple also introduced Boot Camp to help users install Windows XP or Windows Vista on their Intel Macs alongside Mac OS X. This put Apple in the same league as Microsoft and thus began the war between Steve and Bill.

Apple's success during this period was evident in its stock price. Between early 2003 and 2006, the price of Apple's stock increased more than tenfold, from around $6 per share (split-adjusted) to over $80. In January 2006, Apple's market cap surpassed that of Dell. Nine years prior, Dell's CEO Michael Dell said that if he ran Apple he would "shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders." Apple was not only coming out with awesome products, but, these products were selling like hot cakes and Apple was starting to put more and more pressure on companies like Microsoft and Dell, pressure that they never felt before.

Delivering his keynote at the Macworld Expo on January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs announced that Apple Computer, Inc. would from that point on be known as Apple Inc. The event also saw the announcement of the iPhone and the Apple TV. The following day, Apple shares hit $97.80, an all-time high at that point. In May, Apple's share price passed the $100 mark.

On July 11, 2008, Apple launched the App Store to sell third-party applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Within a month, the store sold 60 million applications and brought in $1 million daily on average. Three months later, it was announced that Apple had become the third-largest mobile handset supplier in the world due to the popularity of the iPhone.

On January 14, 2009, an internal Apple memo from Steve Jobs announced that he would be taking a six-month leave of absence, until the end of June 2009, to allow him to better focus on his health and to allow the company to better focus on its products. Despite Steve Jobs' absence, Apple recorded its best non-holiday quarter (Q1 FY 2009) during the recession with a revenue of $8.16 billion and a profit of $1.21 billion. This is the main reason why Apple has succeeded over the years. Apple Inc. is not the product of Steve Jobs alone but the people he has brought in to execute the vision that he has for modern day technology.

In my opinion Apple has surpassed every company because they make products that are reliable, easy to use and down right awesome. Here's to ten more years of dominance Apple.
